Finding My Mission

After reading Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, I followed his advice and wrote my mission statement. It was an introspective, discerning process that has helped me focus as I tried to finish up a very tough teaching semester. So here it is!

  • I strive for economic security, and I will achieve this goal by seeking full-time employment, paying off debt, and saving for the future through an IRA and other investment plans.

  • I value adventure and variety through travel, new experiences, and acquired skills. Therefore, I will work to be able to afford one international trip per year and attaining one new skill per year. In 2019, I hope to learn about investing and become a more skilled investor.

  • In my work, I would like to analyze and solve problems, create short- and long-term plans, design programs, and be a source of information for others. I would like to mostly work independently with some teamwork and group activities. I would like to feel effective, confident, and stable in my job. Therefore, I will work toward becoming an instructional designer and gain a thorough understanding of learning management systems as well as the media tools and programs required for the job.

  • To become an instructional designer, I will complete the MS in Instructional Technology at COLLEGE with an anticipated graduation date of December 2021. I will seek graduate assistantships and internships in order to gain practical job skills that will increase my job prospects.

  • Health is my top priority, and I will follow a healthy diet, swim regularly, and implement relaxation techniques as appropriate.

  • Order and tranquility are also key components of my health status, and I work toward stability in all aspects of my life. I want to develop deep relationships, a secure and satisfying career, and good health in a stress-free environment. To achieve this stability, I will truthfully and clearly advocate for myself at home, at work, and in society. I will try to reduce needless and harmful stress and pressure whether self-imposed or asserted by others.

  • Growth, intellectual activity, and creativity are integral parts of being a lifelong learner, and I want to continue my learning through extensive reading (books and articles), listening (podcasts and news), and learning (classes, other). I hope to share what I learn through a blog (to be determined).
